Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT)

AIDT was established to recruit, assess and train qualified potential employees at no cost to the industry and based on company criteria for both new and expanding industries. Job-specific pre-employment and on-the-job training programs are provided in addition to trainee recruitment and screening; and a full range of customized technical training programs that are free to the employers and to the trainees. Calhoun Community College

Calhoun Community College is a community-based, State supported, comprehensive community college. The college program offers Associates in Arts, Associates in Sciences, and Associates in Applied Science degrees and a diploma and certificate program. Calhoun continually works with local industry to develop curriculum that is specifically designed to meet the needs of current workforce demands. Visit the Calhoun website.

Academic and Technical Programs of specific interest to Business and Industry include:

• Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificates in Applied Technology with Majors in Aerospace Technology, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Automation/Robotics, Design Drafting, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology and Process Technology.
• Business Administration with majors in Accounting Technology, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Management, Real Estate, and Paralegal.
• Computer Information Systems with majors in Microcomputers, Programming, and Networking Technology.
• Computer Graphics with majors in Graphic Design, Computer Graphics/Electronic Imaging, and Graphic Animation/Electronic Imaging.
• Health Sciences with degrees in Nursing, Dental Assisting, Clinical Laboratory Technology, Emergency Medical Services, and Physical Therapist Assistant.
• Associate of Science Degree is offered in various topics of study including Humanities/Fine Arts/Speech, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and History, Social and Behavioral Sciences along with Pre-Professional, Pre-Major, and Elective Courses such as Engineering.

In conjunction with many of these programs, Calhoun offers a Co-operative work program affording students the opportunity to gain industry work experience in their field of study while pursuing their academic degree.

In addition to the wide range of traditional and credit courses that are offered, Calhoun through its Workforce Solutions Division is committed to providing short-term training and workforce solutions to the business community as well as non-credit community education and adult literacy courses to our community. Workforce Solution offerings range from short-term Corporate Training with Global Corporate College ( www.globalcorporatecollege.org), ACT Testing and Assessment Services, Industrial Skills Training, Professional Certification Training in areas such as Quality and Computer Skill and Health Care certification programs and Adult Education/GED services. In all areas, Calhoun can tailor the training for the particular business and industry situation.

Alabama Technology Network (ATN)

Training and retaining a qualified and productive workforce also remains a challenge. ATN provides hands-on business and technical assistance using experts located at 15 center locations at 12 community colleges and at the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA)

The Workforce Development Division of ADECA administers several workforce initiatives:

Alabama's Career Center System- The Decatur Career Center provides services such as job development, occupational and educational training, vocational rehabilitation, veterans’ services and unemployment insurance information. Incumbent Worker Program- In a constantly changing marketplace that requires new technology and demands new skills, the Incumbent Worker Program helps workers upgrade and acquire new skills so that employers can meet foreign competition, avoid layoffs and stay open. Visit the ADECA website.

Workforce Development

MCEDA is committed to workforce development efforts to promote careers in manufacturing and technology. Through partnerships with local high schools, Calhoun Community College, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, Career Coaches, and local industry leaders, we are addressing the rising need for skilled labor force in our community.
